Research topic (What are you interested in learning more about?): Personal collections, conceptual art education and its accessibility. Rationale (Why is this topic significant – to yourself and the field?): I believe there is a need to make the conceptual aspects of art education more accessible. Top notch art education usually happens at institutions connected to notable collections but not everyone has access to them. Personal collections are always accessible and I believe they have the power to be the museum outside the museum. Research question (What are you attempting to explore, explain, describe, understand, develop, or discover about your topic?): How can we use a personal collection as though it is a museum resource when we teach, and teach about, art? Sub-question(s): Why do people collect intentionally? Unintentionally? How is a conceptual art education? How do people create work in response to a reference? Methodology (How will you answer your research questions?): Observation, interviews, photographs and readings. |
